  The main principle of transformer operation is that each electric field generates a magnetic field and each magnetic field generates an electric field. There are many types of transformers on the market now, each of which has different uses. If you want any kind of better transformer, in order to know that it works well, testing is very important.

  1. You need to visually inspect the transformer. Do not test the transformer if it has bumps or any burn marks on the outside. This may be the result of overheating, a common transformer failure. If the transformer looks good visually, you can continue to test it. To do this, you must determine the wiring of the transformer. Get a schematic diagram of the circuit including the transformer and see how it is connected. The schematic diagram can be found in the product documentation or the website of the circuit manufacturer.

  2. The input and output of the transformer must be identified. The circuit that generates the magnetic field will be connected to the primary circuit of the transformer. Another circuit receiving power from the magnetic field will be connected to the secondary circuit of the transformer. Determine the output filtering. You can connect capacitors and diodes to the secondary of the transformer to convert the output AC power supply into DC power supply.

  Now, prepare to measure the circuit voltage. In order to access the circuit, you need to remove the cover and panel as needed. Read the voltage with a digital multimeter stored in the power supply. Now the digital multimeter in AC mode is used to measure the transformer primary by supplying power to the circuit. If the measured voltage is less than the expected 80%, the fault may be in the transformer or circuit. In this case, the primary circuit and the input circuit should be separated. The input power, such as the expected value, indicates the fault of the main circuit. If the input power does not show the expected value, the fault is in the input circuit.
